That some of the details have to be explained as allegorical or legendary has to be admitted (e.g. Luke’s marital status, his age [see Luke 2:37], the place of his death, and probably even the place of composition of his writings). They are of little concern. But to dismiss the substance of the tradition—that Luke wrote the Third Gospel and Acts—seems gratuitous.
